However, when the school was over, Helen wanted to take out her note but found nothing. She burst into tears, saying: ” The money will be used to buy medicine for my mother. Now it is lost. What should I do?” Hearing this, Margaret kept silent, thinking that no one had known that she had taken the money.
Nevertheless, she felt somewhat unwell and the matter had become a mental burden for her. That night, she tossed about in bed and tried in vain to fall asleep. The next morning, she was aching all over because she had has a sleepless night. She had qualms of conscience.
Having relized her mistake, she rused to the school and found her teacher, telling her the whole story and asking her to return the money to Helen. The teacher told her to see Helen personally and make an apology for the temporary greed. When she had done as the teacher said, Helen said : “Never mind. It is very good of you to correct your error when you become aware of it. I shall never look down upon you for this.”
